3 Months Young!

Kyle's 3 month birthday has already come and gone. We celebrated with a camping trip to Fort Ebey this weekend. Fort Ebey is a WWII camp that was one of three fire bases protecting Puget Sound during the war. We've camped there before - an awesome park with about 30 miles of great biking/hiking/running trails and a great view of the water and the Olympic Penninsula.

It was our first camping trip with Kyle as well as the maiden voyage with our new camping trailer. Our first night didn't go so well, we had a sight with no hook ups. Not a big deal, we've tent camped forever, but this being our first camping trip in about a year, we were very poorly prepared. After a dinner of brats and home-made cole slaw, Kyle and I watched the sun go down from the Bluff trail, a great trail overlooking the water and the Olympic mountains (about a 100' bluff down to the water below). We then headed back to camp where Mom and I soon discovered that we only packed one blanket for us (2 for Kyle) and no cold weather gear - so it was a very cold night for the three of us with no heat. Luckily Kyle-boy had his heavy fleece sleeper (more of a sleeping bag with arms) so he was in pretty good shape. Mom and Dad (Dad particularly) were pretty cold. Bad for sleeping, but good for food preservation (no power for the fridge)!

After a chilly night, we were able to move sites to one with full hook ups. We were now able to exploit the full capabilities of our new "toy". Electricity is a great thing. We got our fridge, heater, hot water heater, and full compliment of interior and exterior lights fired up - awesome. Mom and I each got to go for a trail run (I got one in today too) and enjoy the fantastic trail system. We split a bottle of "Happy Camper" Cabernet over some freshly grilled and beer simmered hamburgers. A good dose of S'Mores and it was bedtime.

So after a two day, too short stay, we had a breakfast of pancakes, cleaned up camp and headed home. We took the ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo and were home in no time. After getting provisions put away, a little cleaning, laundry, and watering of flowers it was time for a tubby with Kyle. Tomorrow he has his 3 month pictures so we had to make sure we washed all the camping grime off of him-he needs to be sqeaky clean!
