Another Week of Firsts

Kyle had another big week of firsts. He had his first fantasy football draft (which he slept entirely through) and his first Packer game on TV (which he also missed kickoff because he was sleeping). Needless to say, he didn't miss much of the Packers vs Cinci preseason game, looks like a time warp to 2005 for the boys in Green and Gold!

Mom also was able to get back to road racing, she did her first 5K race since Kylie boy showed up and she did very well, no PR, but not far off. She ran the Lynnwood Hi 5 5K. Kyle did great too, he enjoyed all the people and the sights and sounds of the race. He also enjoyed being at the mall but not having to go inside to do any shopping (or maybe that was just Dad?). Kyle then had his third poker tournament, he was pretty sleepy for that too.

So after trying to have a quiet weekend, we were still pretty busy. We did get home relatively early each night which resulted in Kyle getting back on track after his busy camping weekend for the two previous weeks. Kyle is sleeping very well, back to sleeping through the night and eating consistently as well. We have started to taper him off of his medicine, based on a doctor visit from 2 weeks ago, all signs are pointing that he is recovering well from his rough start.

He has been picking up the pace with his talking and sitting up lately. He is now able to sit up on the couch with just a little bit of help and is very good at lifting up his head. We haven't had a huge face-plant yet, but it won't be long. He's also got a very good back arch so we think that he is going to try and roll-over one of these days. His new favorite move is to go flying (I lift him up aboave my head) which always brings on an ear to ear grin (and luckily no formula - yet).

So that's about it for now. Everybody is doing well here. We're starting to get our fall vacation plans figured out, we've got a big trip coming up to visit South Carolina for Joerg & Jill's wedding. Should be a great time - we can't wait for a little ocean time!!

We'll be bringing Kyle on his first hunt for that elusive shaker of salt!

3 Months Young!

Kyle's 3 month birthday has already come and gone. We celebrated with a camping trip to Fort Ebey this weekend. Fort Ebey is a WWII camp that was one of three fire bases protecting Puget Sound during the war. We've camped there before - an awesome park with about 30 miles of great biking/hiking/running trails and a great view of the water and the Olympic Penninsula.

It was our first camping trip with Kyle as well as the maiden voyage with our new camping trailer. Our first night didn't go so well, we had a sight with no hook ups. Not a big deal, we've tent camped forever, but this being our first camping trip in about a year, we were very poorly prepared. After a dinner of brats and home-made cole slaw, Kyle and I watched the sun go down from the Bluff trail, a great trail overlooking the water and the Olympic mountains (about a 100' bluff down to the water below). We then headed back to camp where Mom and I soon discovered that we only packed one blanket for us (2 for Kyle) and no cold weather gear - so it was a very cold night for the three of us with no heat. Luckily Kyle-boy had his heavy fleece sleeper (more of a sleeping bag with arms) so he was in pretty good shape. Mom and Dad (Dad particularly) were pretty cold. Bad for sleeping, but good for food preservation (no power for the fridge)!

After a chilly night, we were able to move sites to one with full hook ups. We were now able to exploit the full capabilities of our new "toy". Electricity is a great thing. We got our fridge, heater, hot water heater, and full compliment of interior and exterior lights fired up - awesome. Mom and I each got to go for a trail run (I got one in today too) and enjoy the fantastic trail system. We split a bottle of "Happy Camper" Cabernet over some freshly grilled and beer simmered hamburgers. A good dose of S'Mores and it was bedtime.

So after a two day, too short stay, we had a breakfast of pancakes, cleaned up camp and headed home. We took the ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo and were home in no time. After getting provisions put away, a little cleaning, laundry, and watering of flowers it was time for a tubby with Kyle. Tomorrow he has his 3 month pictures so we had to make sure we washed all the camping grime off of him-he needs to be sqeaky clean!

August Already?

It's almost our favorite time of year, but it's hard to believe. NFL training camps are opening up and we've purchased our Fantasy Football guide book for 2006. Won't be long until the draft! Our lawn is very well burned up - I've only been watering the most visible corner of it. The temps have cooled off a bit, which has been great for sleeping during the day.

Kyle has been doing great. He's been smiling and babbling quite a bit lately. He has started getting very interactive and he has been a blast. He is also sleeping throught the night very consistently - which is good for Mom as Dad has been working quite a bit lately.

We're looking forward to the maiden voyage in our camper, hopefully we'll be able to take a long weekend in a week or two. It'll be nice to have a little get away after a long July.
